As the title suggests, this week I’ve started my first shawl! Because I’m insane, I picked Haruni to be the first shawl pattern I try. I’m making it as a birthday gift for my mother, whose birthday is next month, so it’s also a bit of a rush job. Ah!
I had a bit of trouble deciphering the chart on my first go, but a friendly knitter from reddit.com/r/knitting helped me out and I was able to make a bit of progress. I’m still just at the beginning, but I’ve got a flight from LA to Boston today to give me plenty of time to work on it – we’re headed out east to spend Thanksgiving with Anna’s family, and I’m very excited! Also, nervous because the temperatures look like they’ll be hovering right around freezing the whole time and this California girl doesn’t do well with that kind of thing. I’ve got my fuzziest socks and the Icelandic sweater I made last year (along with a very poofy jacket) at the ready!
Even though this year has been rough in some ways and I can’t help but be concerned for the future, there is still so much to be grateful for. We live in a beautiful place, I have loving family and friends, and so many opportunities to enjoy everything this world has to offer. Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday for this reason – it always reminds me just how much I have to be thankful for in this world. Also, the food.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
