You read the title right – the shawl for my mother’s birthday came out beautifully, and our house was approved on not one but two inspections (one for building safety, one for second unit rentals) for us to live in! Double yay!
Luckily my mom went away with my dad for her actual birthday, because I wasn’t quite finished with the shawl last Friday. I had Saturday and Sunday to finish up, and I finished only a few minutes before her birthday dinner! So, I had to present it to her while blocking (not ideal), but she was thrilled all the same.
The bind-off was annoying and took much longer than I expected, but overall, I would say this pattern was not nearly as complex as it looks. For my first shawl, I’d say I did pretty well. I think I’d like to take a break from fingering weight yarn and lace for a little while now.
So, I cast on a little hat in extra yarn from Brianna’s baby niece’s sweater. I had a whole extra skein… más vale que sobre que falte, right?
I’m making up the pattern as I go along; it’s going to be cabled. At first I was thinking it could be for me, but the more I knit the more I realize the color isn’t really something I would wear, but Sabeena might like it. We’ll see.
Other than knitting, all my spare time is taken up with last minute work on the house so we can move in completely. We’re heading to France at the end of next week to visit Lydia, so the clock is ticking!
