Somewhere in the San Gabriels

We spent this weekend up at Sturtevant Camp in the San Gabriel Mountains – basically in our backyard. I can’t believe we had never been up here before. It’s a hike-in camp on the trail up the Mount Wilson, about 4 or 5 miles up. It’s not a terribly difficult hike, and the reward is a comfy place to stay in an adorable cabin, with real restrooms and hot water, plus a mess hall and communal kitchen to use. Also, very nice people to hang out with!

On the way back, we took the trail up over Mt Zion and down the Upper Winter Creek trail to avoid having to walk up the fire road back to Chantry Flats. It was well worth the extra half mile.

Oh yay!! I hope you love staying there as much as we did! 😀 The host, Deb, is awesome. Definitely make sure you take advantage of the donkey packing to take up some of your things. We were able to cook a really nice meal because we had the donkeys take our groceries up ahead of time – it only costs a couple bucks!

  3. It looks like you both had a wonderful time, it looks so relaxing and nice to be in nature. The photos are so beautiful, and they capture the coziness of the cabin and the outdoors so well!

Thank you! It really was such a nice experience. I would highly recommend it if you’re ever in the Los Angeles area!
