Did I mention we’re going to Iceland?
It’s been kind of a last minute thing. Anna was able to get some (rare) time off, and so we decided to take a trip. One of my colleagues is Icelandic, and we asked her if it would be worth it to go there to see the Northern Lights. She not only enthusiastically told us it would, but also offered the hospitality of her family while we were there – so of course we decided to do it.
Which of course, meant some knitting needed doing. Anna requested a beanie with a poof specially for the trip, and I decided to make myself one as well. Anna chose her color, a beautiful high-chroma dark blue by Madeline Tosh, and I picked a white with blue speckles (I’m blanking on the dyer right now). Hers knit up beautifully, a simple ribbed beanie with a faux fur poof on top. She said, “I’ve never experienced thinking of an item and then having it made exactly like I imagined!”
So I guess that’s good praise!
I’m still working on my own hat, hoping to be able to finish by the time we leave on Saturday!
The other finished object I’d like to share is the little foxes sweater that I mentioned last week. This was a simple bottom-up yoked sweater, somewhat Icelandic-inspired, with a fox motif on the yoke. I charted the whole thing myself, which was a pretty big challenge for me as a first-timer. I think it came out pretty nice, all things considered.
It will be heading up to Alaska to keep my cousin’s daughter warm, hopefully for a long time to come! I made it to be a little big on her, and I think I succeeded this time. It’s knit in KnitPicks Swish worsted. This yarn is suuuper soft and was really nice to work with. I have a good amount of extra yarn left over, so I might make her a matching hat or something…
