To the North!

Did I mention we’re going to Iceland?

It’s been kind of a last minute thing. Anna was able to get some (rare) time off, and so we decided to take a trip. One of my colleagues is Icelandic, and we asked her if it would be worth it to go there to see the Northern Lights. She not only enthusiastically told us it would, but also offered the hospitality of her family while we were there – so of course we decided to do it.

Which of course, meant some knitting needed doing. Anna requested a beanie with a poof specially for the trip, and I decided to make myself one as well. Anna chose her color, a beautiful high-chroma dark blue by Madeline Tosh, and I picked a white with blue speckles (I’m blanking on the dyer right now). Hers knit up beautifully, a simple ribbed beanie with a faux fur poof on top. She said, “I’ve never experienced thinking of an item and then having it made exactly like I imagined!”

This photo doesn’t really do the beautiful yarn justice.

So I guess that’s good praise!

I’m still working on my own hat, hoping to be able to finish by the time we leave on Saturday!

The other finished object I’d like to share is the little foxes sweater that I mentioned last week. This was a simple bottom-up yoked sweater, somewhat Icelandic-inspired, with a fox motif on the yoke. I charted the whole thing myself, which was a pretty big challenge for me as a first-timer. I think it came out pretty nice, all things considered.

It was folded up and the creases show in the picture, alas.

It will be heading up to Alaska to keep my cousin’s daughter warm, hopefully for a long time to come! I made it to be a little big on her, and I think I succeeded this time. It’s knit in KnitPicks Swish worsted. This yarn is suuuper soft and was really nice to work with. I have a good amount of extra yarn left over, so I might make her a matching hat or something…

Thank you so much!! I do think it will keep Anna’s ears quite warm 🙂

I love your fox sweater! My youngest grandson is crazy about foxes. I just made him the mittens which he adores. I’d love to make him a sweater. I need to get brave with charting

Thanks so much! I’m toying with the idea of releasing a pattern for this because I didn’t think my cousin’s daughter was the only one who liked foxes. I’ll definitely post about it on here if I do! 🙂
